As part of the Global Carbon Project and RECCAP2, the LOAC groups synthesise global and regional greenhouse gas budgets for inland waters (rivers, lakes, reservoirs), near-shore coastal systems (coastal vegetationand estuaries) and the continental shelf. It also covers lateral land to ocean carbon fluxes, which have implications for the partitioning of the land and ocean CO2 sinks and climate.
The LOAC component is led by Professor Pierre Regnier from the Université libre de Bruxelles (Biogeochemistry & Modelling of the Earth System) ) and Professor Peter Raymond from Yale University (School of the Environment) with the support of about 100 researchers from all over the world.
